Before the order

Cabinet order checklist for contractors

A cabinet list is only one part of an order. Check the room, appliances, finished details, availability, and receiving plan before anyone gives final approval.

Make sure the plans match the site

Use one dated layout and one matching cabinet list for sign-off. Confirm who took the final field measurements and who will approve the order. A plan made before demolition, framing, or appliance selection may need another look before cabinets are purchased.

Room conditions

Recheck wall lengths, ceiling height, openings, out-of-square corners, uneven floors, and anything that changes clearances or filler widths.

Appliance details

Use the actual model numbers and current installation specifications for the range, refrigerator, dishwasher, hood, and built-in units.

Other trades

Check plumbing, electrical, ventilation, tile, countertop, and flooring plans where they affect cabinet locations or finished dimensions.

Small pieces can hold up a complete kitchen

Walk the drawing from one end of each wall to the other. Check door and drawer swings against nearby walls, appliances, and each other. Verify fillers, finished ends, exposed panels, toe kicks, moldings, and trim. A cabinet list that counts the main boxes but misses a refrigerator panel or required filler still needs revision.

Compare every item number and quantity to the approved drawing. Include specialty storage and accessories only if they are actually selected and priced. If the quote allows substitutions, decide who must approve a change in size, finish, construction, or hardware before it ships.

Pre-order checklist

Copy this list into your project notes or print the page. Mark an item complete only when the drawing, quote, or written plan answers it.

Site and dimensions

Cabinet layout

Product and approval

Delivery and receiving

Resolve these three questions in writing

  1. 01

    Is this the final version?

Keep the approved layout, cabinet list, and quote together. If one changes, update the other two before approval.

  2. 02

What will be delivered, and who receives it?

Separate product, assembly, freight, delivery, and placement. Confirm the person who can inspect the shipment when it arrives.

  3. 03

What happens if an item can't ship as quoted?

Set a contact and approval path for backorders, substitutions, damage, and missing parts. Ask how changes will affect the crew schedule.
