One lead time, several dates
Ask which event the quoted number measures. These checkpoints make a schedule usable:
- Order approval. The layout, cabinet list, finish, payment terms, and delivery details are signed off. A date discussed before approval may change when the actual order is submitted.
- Complete-order availability. Check stock for every cabinet and supporting piece, including fillers, panels, and trim. An available cabinet doesn't make the whole kitchen available.
- Shipping. The order has left the fulfillment point or been handed to a carrier. That doesn't mean it has arrived.
- Delivery and inspection. Confirm the appointment, receiver, piece count, and condition. Allow time to identify shortages or damage.
- Ready for installation. If cabinets are ready to assemble, decide where and when assembly happens. Confirm that the room and preceding trades are ready too.
“Ships in three days” isn't “arrives in three days”
A shipping estimate usually describes when an order is expected to leave. Transit, carrier scheduling, unloading, and inspection still follow. A delivery estimate may also depend on stock being available when the order is placed. Ask for the date's starting point, ending point, and whether it is an estimate or a committed appointment.
What can move the date?
- A missing item that keeps the order from being complete
- Order revisions or substitutions after approval
- Assembly before shipment or at the jobsite
- Carrier transit and delivery appointment availability
- Damage, shortages, or replacement parts found at receiving
Schedule cabinet installation after the order arrives and is checked. Countertop templating usually comes later, after the supporting cabinets are installed and level. Confirm the exact requirements, including sinks and fixtures needed on site, with the countertop trade before booking its visit.
A short cabinet timing worksheet
Write a date and the person who confirmed it beside each item. Leave unknowns open rather than turning an estimate into a crew commitment.
- Final layout and cabinet list approved: ______
- Complete-order availability checked: ______
- Estimated ship date and what it means: ______
- Carrier or delivery appointment confirmed: ______
- Receiver, unloading point, and inspection plan set: ______
- Assembly location and time allowed, if needed: ______
- Installation area ready; crew start agreed: ______
- Countertop trade's required cabinet milestone confirmed: ______
Also decide who calls the crew if an item is short, a delivery moves, or a replacement is needed.
Questions worth asking the provider
- Is the full order available now, including fillers, panels, trim, and accessories? What happens if one item isn't?
- Does the quoted timing end at processing, carrier pickup, delivery, or cabinets ready to install?
- Who receives and inspects the shipment?
- Who handles a shortage or damaged item, how is it documented, and when will you get a revised plan?
For a cabinet scope already in motion, send us the target installation window and jobsite details. We can discuss current availability and the delivery or assembly work that belongs in the written quote.
See the project sequence or plan the delivery handoff before putting the next crew on the calendar.
